Scottish Voiceover Artist: This Year Summed Up

It’s that time of year AGAIN. The deccies are up, Love Actually has been watched at least 2.5 times already and I’m discovering hidden Quality Street wrappers everywhere.

But amidst the Christmas rush comes a time for reflection. Primarily, reflection on the past year as a full-time Voice Artist.

In fact, this year I’ve recorded over 1,000 voiceovers… that’s a lot of words spoken and a lot of words read, especially for a dyslexic.

So, out of all those audio recordings, what have been my voiceover highlights of the year?

It’s tricky to pick and, without being tooooo gushy, I really do love my job… but, here are a handful that come to mind:

🎙️ Being interviewed by The Scotsman Newspaper as a Voiceover Artist with dyslexia

🎙️ Recording my first ever radio drama for the BBC Audio Department

🎙️ Winning another voiceover award – making me a multi-award-winning Voiceover

🎙️ Recording a decent proportion of my voice work in an English accent

🎙️ Being the Station Voice holiday cover for Bauer Media

🎙️ Speaking as an expert panellist at a voiceover industry conference

But of course, it’s not ALL work, here are some wee personal life triumphs:

👶🏻 Becoming an Auntie

🇹🇭 Visiting Thailand

💕 Attending four gorgeous weddings

All in all, it’s been a pretty great year, but of course I have some goals for 2024.

Commercials, corporate narration, IVR and ADR are my voiceover specialisms, and although I do have experience in most areas of voiceovers, I’ve never recorded a documentary narration.

So, this is me putting it out into the ether – next year I want to be the go-to Scottish documentary voiceover artist… but, if that’s too ambitious, at least record my first one!
