A month in the life of a Voiceover Artist.
The month started with a bang and I achieved one of my long-term goals - recording a Radio Drama with the BBC. For about 10 years now, it’s been on my wish list, ever since the Audio Drama module I completed at LIPA, as part of my degree. If only EVERY month started like this!
My usual daily voicing work includes commercials (mostly radio & online), corporates (voiced in my own Scottish accent and also in a neutral English one) and a lot of “please hold the line” IVR work. Although I say it’s ‘my usual’, there’s a huge variety in the scripts so the days always feel different – some can be bubbly, hard-selling, conversational, professional or poignant and others can be more like character work… those are my particular favourites.
This month I also recorded a game, connecting live to the US and Europe. It’s naturally NDA’d but hopefully I can shout about it one day!
I also recorded some Audio Description. As a dyslexic voiceover (yes, I know the irony) it can sometimes be more of a challenge than my shorter form work but having my own studio means I can self-record and take my time.
A final highlight of the month was my interview on BBC Radio London, as part of their trends at 12pm feature. It’s weird speaking on mic without a script… using my actual words… I could get used to it!
